Fathers Day is soon approaching and once again you are scrambling to think of a new and original idea for dad. Well, I don’t know about your father but mine has become quite invested in the reality TV show “Forged in Fire.” It’s pretty much a competition show kind-of like those cooking ones except that these are blacksmiths competing to forge the best sword, battle axe, mace, or whatever challenge gets thrown at them.
And if I’m being honest here, my dad isn’t the only one enjoying that show. It’s actually really interesting to watch! It really goes to show you how much effort and detail goes into every blade, ever handle, every inch of these forged masterpieces. Blacksmithing had somewhat become a lost art and I think it’s great that it’s gaining popularity once again. As you know, I am all for handmade items that have been created with love and passion. I’d spend an extra dollar on something handcrafted than on a factory-made replica any day!
So below you are sure to find the perfect gift for your Viking dad. Whether it be a new hatchet to cut firewood, a new set of dinner utensils just for him, or an awesome new bottle opening axe.

The Battle Axe (or camping hatchet)
Every Viking dad needs to carry his own axe while voyaging through dangerous mountains (or your backyard.) It’s an imperative tool to have on hand when there is wood to be cut and fires to be built.
These Etsy sellers have gone the distance to bring you stunning movie-like hatchets at reasonable prices. It’s impossible not to appreciate the artistry that has gone into the blades and the details on the handles.

The Scandinavian Seax (or pocket knife)
A Viking warrior needs a knife on hand for any mundane task that may appear in front of him. To gut and skin his dinner, to cut off the rope from the merchant ship, or to carve a sculpture for a shield-maiden.
Check out these beautifully-made pocket knives (and pocket axe) from the blacksmiths of Etsy. Here you can be assured quality products.

Feasting Hall
Eating Tools
Now as you are aware, Vikings did not use utensils to rip into their freshly-hunted meat. They used their calloused hands to devour their dinners. However, times are changing and it seems to me that the new-age Vikings, every so often, use hand-forged tools to feast.
Cutlery to dine with inside the feasting hall, tools to cook their meat with, and even a spoon to measure their coffee with.
