Salmon Arm Local Boutique
Our story begins…
In the beginning, Chris and his business partner Karen ran a local clothing store for a few years. They had items from local artists but mostly falling in the fashion genre. And just as many of our past interviewees have told me, there was always talk amongst the locals of not having a place in town for the various local artisans. Chris and Karen came across an available space in an old Canadian Tire building and thought it would be an awesome place to take on the project. A project that would finally supply a home to 94+ artists from the Shuswap. And so we have…

So what can you find in the shop?
Well, 94 artists amongst 6,200 Sq. Ft., there is A LOT to see.
While the large majority is dedicated to the local artisans, they also have a clothing section that contains discount clothing from showroom samples. This means that you can find some (what-would-be) pricey clothing for amazing deals.
Handmade Shoppe is also home to a ton of unique and fun events such as; Sip & Paints, Chalk Paint Workshops, Clay Fairy House Workshops, Other Craft Workshops, and even live music!
Alongside all of that, there is a unique café (The Ugly Mug) in the back where you can sit down, relax, and have a nice fresh coffee.
I was totally impressed by all the amazing items for sale here. Some of the most unique and imaginative handmade things I’ve seen! Some of the local artists supply items such as…
Art & Decor
Home-Use Items
Lotions & Potions
& So Much More!

Why is supporting local important to him?
Chris knows how important it is to support his community since he also knows how much his community supports him. He relies on local support, and in turn supports locally. At The Handmade Shoppe, Chris is able to provide a place for artists to make an income equal to or more than what they would with a regular full-time job. He helps people make a living doing what they love to do. Supporting the local economy has a ton of benefits.

“If you could have a coffee/beer with anyone (living or dead) who would it be and why?”
“I’d want to get a drink with Ellen Degeneres. She’s always has a positive attitude about any situation and I’d want to ask her what the trick is to keeping upbeat and happy all the time.”
