Reducing Your Waste : An Etsy Guide

Recently Etsy has put out a new selection of Editors Picks under the title : Reduce Your Waste.

They feature everything from upcycled gifts, to reclaimed wood furniture, to earth friendly cleaning products and more. I think it’s a great idea! Although when thinking about reducing your waste, buying more items doesn’t exactly come to mind. But the idea is that these are products you will only have to buy once (or very minimal amounts) in an effort of reducing your waste that is being thrown out everyday.

For example; how often do you throw cling-wrap in the garbage? Most people, very often. Well what if there was a simpler way that could be simply washed and reused? There is!

Reducing Your Waste : An Etsy Guide

So because my lists of Etsy items have become popular,

(like my Etsy Mothers Day Gift Ideas, or my Montreal Etsy Fair 2017 spotlighted shops )

I have put together a very short list of my favorite items that I believe to be the most useful in everyday situations. Items that will help in reducing your waste.

Reusable Pouch/Sandwich Bags

There are a ton of different sandwich bags around that you can get. I bet if you check your local artisan boutiques or maybe even farmers markets you may be able to find some! Or perhaps you know how to sew and you can make them yourself!

I chose these reusable bags from EarthenwearHandmade because they are made from 100% organic cotton, and they are made in my home province British Columbia (represent, woot woot!)

Reusable Napkins

Alright well as you can see HeapsHandwork has a TON of different designs and colours you can choose from. But why I chose them as a favorite of mine is because of what they work with. Waterbased ink, reusable cottons, 100% organic cottons. The designs are hand-drawn and then screen printed onto the cloth. Not to mention they are made right here in New Brunswick, Canada! They are washable and reusable!

Reusable Beeswax Food Wrap

Ontario company WellieCo does a great job making this reusable food wrap. They are handmade with 100% natural beeswax, certified organic cotton, jojoba oil and pine rosin. They work as well as plastic cling wrap but aren’t a hazard to the environment. They can be rinsed clean, dried and reused, and once they have been worn out they can be easily composted! Loooove it!

Recycled Skateboards

The last shop I want to feature is a very unique shop indeed. AdrienMartinus produce a ton of amazing items from recycled skateboards!

This cutting board for example is made from recycled skateboards, organic beeswax, mineral oil, and food safe wood glue. Absolutely stunning.

This charcuterie tray is made from recycled skateboards, maple wood, leather string and shellec.

Or how about some recycled skateboard earrings using nickel free metals?

Overall, I’m so impressed and happy that so many businesses are looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly in production and outcome of their unique products. More and more people are looking for ways to reduce their negative footprints on the Earth, and reducing our personal waste is a great way to start.
