montreal boutique & thrift store
Our story begins…
Arterie began (and I quote) “by a series of accidents”. Danette started off selling vegan shoes. She found a space in an existing store to set up her vegan shoes, and after time got more and more involved in the store. As time passed, the original store owner moved out, which left the option to Danette to take over. She had already put so much into the store she couldn’t have passed up the opportunity. So from vegan shoes to business owner Danette took over. The world put her where she needed to be and from that was born…

Why is supporting local important to her?
Cultural identity. Danette believes it is so important to have unique things that come from individuals of the city. No traveler is interested in wearing something that they could get back home. When people travel to new places they want to buy something that represents that place or culture; something that can only be found there.
Supporting the artist community. These small artists who are trying to make a living, don’t necessarily have unemployment-insurance, or pensions. But what they are doing and what they are making is of so much importance. They bring colour and art to our lives. They bring uniqueness and identity to our cultures.
“If you could have a coffee/beer with anyone (living or dead) who would it be and why?”
“I would have a beer with Shakespeare. He’s a mystery, because so many people don’t know who he is… So, Shakespeare, or the person who wrote the Shakespeare plays. I would like to just sit down with this person and see what kind of person could have possibly come up with the most iconic stories that the world knows. Ask him, who he would have a beer with maybe… Very “meta.” Or maybe I would ask him if he could bring one of his characters to life, who would it be? Ya… I would like to get very drunk with Shakespeare.“
