Kas, Turkey: The Experience

Kas is a small fishing village within the Antalya district. It lies among the Turquoise Coast of South Western Turkey. Pleasant in atmosphere, the narrow streets have a romantic feel with scents of jasmine and honey linger in the air.

I spent only a day in Kas, but enjoyed my time
Exploring the town…

  • Small cafes, bed and breakfasts and a local jazz bar line the sidewalks.
  • The city is home to Kiln Under the Sea; an underwater ceramics exhibit. As well as a variety of wreck sites (faux et vrai).
  • Kas is known as one of Turkeys best scuba diving spots, offering around 15 dive centres and schools. Get to know some friendly sea turtles or introduce yourself to an octopus with over 50 guided dive spots. Turkish souvenirs Kas

Kas is also one of the harbour cities that has ferry access to the Greek Island Kastellorizo (also known as; Meis.) The day trip costs around 30CAD-40CAD, depending on the season, and is just a 30 minute boat ride. The small Greek island offers a boat excursion to the blue cave, and a hike upwards to a castle with stunning views of the crystal blue sea below.

Besides the numerous beaches that attract many tourists, there is also many options for;

  • Trekking
  • Hiking
  • Paddle-boarding
  • Paragliding and parasailing
  • Canyoning
  • Magnificent scenery among the Hellenistic Theatre ruins.

Kas is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

As far as where to stay
The hostel Can Mocamp has been given extraordinary reviews, and is the cheapest bed&breakfast in Kas; $15CAD per night. They offer “free parking, free wifi, and free breakfast.”

Furthermore, there are…
yoga sessions 5 days a week,
live music jams at night (bring your own instrument!)
and open air cinema shows (Turkish world cinema.)
Accommodation is a choice of bungalows, stone rooms and campgrounds.

*Unfortunately when I visited Kas a few years ago; I didn’t know I’d be starting a blog and didn’t think to take photos. These photos are from a cool little website called photopin. They offer free royalty-free photos and you can give photo credit in return.
