I love supporting Etsy and their fabulous artisans! I especially love supporting them when they are putting time and effort into creating products in eco-friendly manners. Even more so, when those products help us consumers shop in eco-friendly manners (like a Zero Waste lifestyle)! It’s a win-win!
What is Zero Waste?
“Zero Waste is a philosophy and a design principle for the 21st Century. It includes ‘recycling’ but goes beyond recycling by taking a ‘whole system’ approach to the vast flow of resources and waste through human society.
Zero Waste maximizes recycling, minimizes waste, reduces consumption and ensures that products are made to be reused, repaired or recycled back into nature or the marketplace.”
— GrassRoots Recycling Network
“Zero Waste poses a fundamental challenge to ‘business as usual.’ It has the potential to motivate people to change their lifestyles, demand new products, and insist that corporations and governments behave in new ways. This is a very exciting development.”
— Peter Montague, editor of Rachel’s Environment & Health Weekly
The Zero Waste trend is a lifestyle and decision to show that you care about this amazing planet. But to start on your Zero Waste lifestyle you may need a few tools in your toolkit.
Personally, I always carry around a reusable water bottle, reusable cutlery (including fork, spoon, knife, and metal straw), reusable shopping bags, handmade beeswax cling wrap, and sometimes a reusable coffee mug if I know that I’ll be indulging. The very basics for a day out and about. But zero waste products can extend to the kitchen, the nursery, the bathroom, etc. Basically, any product that is disposable should (and can) be replaced with a product that is reusable.
So let’s get to it! Support artisans as you support the health of the planet.

Hello, I support every initiative for a clean planet. I used a plastic box of hair mask to make a toy. I will continue with this idea.

Love these ideas but never know whether to order online and have it delivered causing a bigger carbon footprint or spend time searching for it locally….it’s so easy to just click and get it delivered especially with having young kids.
Hey Rebecca, I’m totally with ya! I try my best to check locally first but there are just some things that work for me personally to buy online! Good luck to you in your journey!
This is such an awesome round up! I love finding products that donβt create environment problems!
Great article – thank you for promoting Etsy shops. I am also a zero waste shop – making wool mittens from felted sweaters, Christmas stockings from wool suiting and more! All my little bits and pieces are made into Christmas ornaments for the suiting and wool dryer balls with the left over sweater wool.
I would love a chance to be featured in a future article. Here is my link – https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/NeedleandSpice I am also in BC.
Hugs,
Dianne
Great article – thank you for featuring Etsy shops. I am also a zero waste producer – making wool mittens from upcycled sweaters, Christmas stockings from wool suits. All my little bits of suiting become Christmas ornaments and the wool sweater scraps become wool dryer balls.
I would love a chance to be featured if you write another article. Here is my link – https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/NeedleandSpice
Thank you!
Dianne
Thanks so much for writing Dianne! I have an archive of zero-waste and eco-friendly artists that I like to feature in my articles! I will add you to the list π
Also I noticed you are from Kelowna! I was born and raised in Salmon Arm! A big BC hello to you!
Hello,
I just want to say that my shop has been zero waste for the last ~2 years.
I am not based in the UK, but I don’t find many zero waste shops on Etsy… yet.
I haven not had that many sales.
Thanks,
Leslie
